Ya’ll know the drill now; it’s that time of the year where we make New Year’s resolutions. It’s time to start that ‘New Year, new me’ cliché.
If like me you don’t do New Year’s resolutions how do you keep yourself on track and make sure that you’re not remaining stagnant?
Instead of New Year’s resolutions, I set myself goals. I have a yearly mood board I hang up on my wall which I can see every morning I wake up, to remind me off what I want to achieve that year. As well as a list I stick up pictures, visuals work for me as it sticks more in my head. For example, if I want to buy a new car, I will print out the exact make and model that I want and I will hang it on my mood board.
So far it has worked, in the past I have achieved almost 70% of the things on my list. Last year I’m happy to say I achieved 100% (Yaay go me!)
I’m the sort of person who needs to be creative with things that I do because I kind of get bored easily. New Year’s resolutions for me are kind of a bore. I haven’t made a New Year’s Resolution since I was in college, because they’ve always struck me as writing lines in school detention. Now in saying that, I’m not perfect at all, I have flaws which I wish I could change like PROCASTIATION.
But why wait till Jan 1st of every year until you do something about your flaws? Why not nip it in the bud as soon as you notice a flaw.
The best way to start something is to start it now. Imagine realising in August that you procrastinate, and then you wait till January 1st to sort out your procrastination ha-ha…. You’ve literally procrastinated the procrastination.
What I try to do, when I notice flaws in me is to work on it immediately, a new year doesn’t mean a new you. That means you’re literally having multiple personalities throughout your lifetime.
You don’t need New Year’s Resolutions to motivate you because New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day aren’t any different from any other days.
I’ve seen friends make resolutions and fail to keep them including myself —especially the people who crowd the gym January 1 every year and slowly drift away over the next month. LOL!!
