My experience with picking vendors

Two months into it and i can officially say wedding planning is stressful especially if your wedding is in a different country like mine.  I used to look for vendors on Instagram and Bella Naija until I realised that Instagram planners and vendors want to use my money to buy land and business class ticket to Zanzibar.

Vendors are the experts who will bring your wedding vision to fruition — but with so many different options available, it can be difficult to know where to even start, this is why it’s better not to rush and plan properly before picking vendors.

Research research research…. I can’t stress this enough. I made the mistake of going with the popular vendors I saw on Instagram rather than researching, I achieved nothing but increase in phone bills, blocked profiles on Instagram and deleting contacts on WhatsApp (some of these Nigerian vendors can be rude ehhhhhh) The best advice I can give when picking your vendor is to do a lot of research, pick based on referrals and do not pick based on hype.

Also don’t forget you can negotiate, don’t settle for one stupid ridiculous quote someone is giving you. I made the mistake of calling vendors from my +44 line (UK number) and I’m very sure when they see a different country code on their phone, it automatically translates into dollar and naira signs KERCHING!!

I think it would be wise to thoroughly research and not just go through IG or Social Media. Look at your budget and work from that, think about what is important to you and your hubby instead of going with the popping  latest vendors, you see ehn its all these popping ones who think they have arrived that will be talking to someone anyhow as if you’re under their feet. (I feel a post coming up about my experience with rude vendors)

Luckily for me, I have a cousin in the wedding business, my eyes have shined and my tactic has changed. Now I am basically using her to do all the negotiating for me since she is based there, she is also in a better position to help with the best vendors.

Ali-express is now also my best friend, I have downloaded the app on all my devices. Ali – express has a lot of low budget friendly items. I know many who sourced wedding items there; moreover the Chinkos are very fashion forward and aware of what we like. I would rather do Ali express than deal with rudeness from Bridesmaid Haven (Uh-Uh #Shade #Noshade #Warrever  #ifyouknowyouknow)
